Keratin treatments are a relief for damaged hair due to straightening, curling or lightening. Thanks to cosmetics that contain a natural hair-building ingredient, i.e. protein in the form of keratin, your hairstyle will regain its shine, natural shine and silky softness. Hair nourished with proteins becomes loose and soft, and split ends will stop you from letting your eyes sleep. Are you fighting for long hair? Say goodbye to scissors and stock up on keratin-based cosmetics.
How does hair keratin work?
Keratin is a natural hair-building ingredient. In order to understand well how it works, and therefore to know when it should be included in hair care, we will start with a little chemistry revision.
To put it simply, keratin is a protein that is responsible for the shape and structure of the hair. This includes the chemical bonds of keratin affect this:
whether the hair is healthy and shiny, or dull and devoid of shine, but also whether they are curly or straight.
This substance is also responsible for the proper protection of the hair, and its deficiency may cause the hair cuticles to open and be more prone to damage and splitting.
When you style your hair, e.g. dye it, curl it or straighten it with hot straighteners and curlers, you are depriving it of keratin. Therefore, to rebuild hair, it is important to provide protein, i.e. proteins, in your daily care. Keratin smoothes the hair, and by filling the defects in the protective coating, it also gives it shine and natural shine.
Is it worth using keratin for hair?
The answer to that question is: it depends. First of all, the condition of your hair should determine whether it is worth using keratin. If you have split ends, flat, damaged hair, because you often use a straightener or curler, or you bleach your hair regularly, creatine can be a good solution for you, and integrating it into your care will help you rebuild damaged hair (How to save damaged hair after bleaching? ).
However, be careful about reprocessing your hair. If you give your hair too much protein (i.e. keratin), you can make it dry, frizzy, stiff and coarse. And yet keratin is supposed to make your hair regain its shine!
If you do not know if your hair is reprocessed or damaged – check it with SLS or SLES shampoo – after using such a remedy, the reprotein should return to balance, and hair that needs keratin will not show such improvement. And in this case, keratin can help your hair.
Keratin for hair straightening – what are the effects of the hairdresser’s treatment?
Keratin on hair – action Each of my friends who have ever been tempted to straighten hair (and there were several of them), when asked if it was worth it, answered me: “Of course! It’s a blessing. Now, calm for 2-3 months ”. Why? Because they claimed that the hair does not frizz, does not require straightening or styling in the morning, and that it shines beautifully and looks healthy.
So I decided to take a closer look at this treatment and find out what makes the hair after straightening with keratin give the sense of “peace” emphasized by ladies.
For keratin straightening, specially composed hairdressing preparations are used, which contain the so-called hydrolyzed keratin, i.e. the one which, thanks to small particles, penetrates deep into the hair structure and rebuilds it. The effectiveness of this substance is so high because keratin is obtained from sheep’s wool and its structure is very similar to human hair. So your hair returns to its natural balance.
The temperature of the ceramic straightener (about 230 degrees C) helps to open the cuticles of the hair and thus keratin penetrates into the hair shaft even more easily. The keratin straightening treatment makes the hair look like a sheet of water – shiny, strong and perfectly smooth. Until recently, keratin straightening was possible only in professional hairdressing salons. Today, there are more and more products on the market that allow you to perform the treatment at home. The straightening effect lasts for 2 to 4 months.
Hair keratin conditioner
Fortunately, there are quite a few keratin hair conditioners – you have a lot to choose from. Due to the action of keratin, damaged hair slowly rebuilds itself and becomes visibly smoother. The first symptom that you notice after using a keratin conditioner is that it is much easier to detangle the hair – it becomes more loose and slippery – simply pleasant to the touch.
Keratin can also be applied to the hair in the form of a mist – you can make it yourself by adding a few drops of hydrolyzed keratin to the hydrolates and oils. If you do not like playing a little chemist and are afraid that you will mix the proportions of ingredients incorrectly, you can reach for a ready-made solution, eg from L’biotica Biovax NutriQuick (Two-phase conditioner without rinsing. Keratin + silk). An additional ingredient in this conditioner is silk, which smooths the hair but does not weigh it down.
Hair keratin mask
Some hair bloggers say that proper nourishment of the hair with keratin can only be done with a hair mask and then applied in an appropriate ritual. What should it look like?
Apply a rich and creamy keratin mask (eg Vichy Laboratoires Dercos Technique nourishing and regenerating rich mask) to washed hair, then wrap your hair with cling film or a special cap to raise the temperature of the hair. As in the case of keratin straightening, it is about heating the hair and opening the cuticles so that the mask can penetrate deep into the hair structure and nourish it from the inside. After 15 – 20 minutes, take off the mask by rinsing it with lukewarm water.
After care, damaged hair will be visibly smoother and you can feel the effect of weighing down the hair, but in a good sense – the hairstyle will become less hay. Check out other hair cosmetics on makeupyes.
